The Minneapolis institute of Arts has an extensive collection of classic Chinese furniture housed in unique surroundings. The institute offer to the visitor’s first-hand views of life in a traditional Chines home hundreds of years ago.
The first photo we see the reception hall, from a courtyard-style family home in the East Dogting Hills. The room retains its original decorative carvings, foundation stones, floor tiles and most of the windows and wood grills. As the most important room of the house, the reception hall expressed the social cultural refinement and artistic taste.
The second photo we see the library, or studio, that came from a larg Qing dynasty residence in Tangli west Dongting Hills. Scholars would read, write examine antiques, converse and find solace there. Nearly all the library’s wooden structural wall tiles and foundation stones are original. The library is dated 1797 by a commemorative plaque.
