The Juxtaposition term is usually used in visual arts and music but lately is also becoming popular for interior design. Juxtaposition consists in putting together two objects, themes, or materials, and combining them to create a striking contrast. In interior design this means putting together two different styles or two different periods within the same space. We have picked out some examples of rooms with contrasting styles or époque.
Two different styles
In the bedroom below we can identify some Victorian furniture like the chair, the beautiful framed painting, and the big curtains on the window, combined with this unique hand painted Asian antique chest.

A different mix but same concept we can see in this country living room with antique Asian décor accent. If you like to be surrounded by furniture that you love, mixing different styles with the right balance can create a unique design.

Two different époque “modern and old”
The juxtaposition of modern and old is so interesting and can create a lot of layers in the same room. The mix and match strategy is first on full display in an electrical living room, but somehow it all works together. Then, following, a Studio Pelizzari dining room remodel brings together different époque with an antique Asian Scholar Chair from the Ming Dynasty and the Vitra Panton Chair an icon of the 20 th century.
