While modern technology has improved furniture production through automation, Asian furniture continues to preserve traditional hand crafting.
Oriental hand painted furniture is made of high quality woods joined together using modern machinery, and hand crafted for other, more intricate details, such as recurring patterns and grooves. The traditional steps the artist will use when crafting their piece is what makes Asian furniture unique. A guide is used to trace the design that will be hand etched and carved. Then every piece is sprayed and sanded more than once to achieve the desired finish and color. After the finishing coat is set, patterns and hand painted designs are ready to be added, all of which are unique to each piece as they can be slightly different according to the artist’s imagination. Finally, the lacquer finish is added to protect the artwork from damage, water, and stains and the last finishing details are applied before each item is inspected. The end result is an interplay between surface detail and underlying shape and form.
Below we look at pictorial landscape as texture that compliments more intricate lines and form seen throughout a room.
Love, creativity and dedication.
That’s what goes into handmade.
